From Friday night to now, Chad and I have been very busy on getting our house ready to move in. The final details are very tedious! But, we hope to move in next weekend....YAY!
Friday night, Doug finished priming and painting the newly textured ceilings and walls with his sprayer. Meanwhile, Chad, Chandra and I worked on cutting in around the edges and other areas of the house that were too small to be painted with the sprayer. That job takes forever. **Starting the paint: Mostly finished with the paint (minus the edges real close to the ceilings):Saturday, Chad and I came back early in the morning to pick up, take the rest of the plastic and tape down, finish painting, put up a new fan and chandelier and clean cabinets. **We had a competition of who could put the light up the fastest between Team A and Team B: (Team A Lost)(Team B won):But, they both got put up in the end...(With a little help from Team B) Today, our main focus was getting the carpet and cabinets clean. The carpet was a mess! Luckily, cleaned up good. We vacuumed all the big stuff up using the shop vac first. Then, we went back and vacuumed the house probably more times than I've ever vacuumed our apartment. (HA!) Then, we cleaned it with the Rug Doctor (2x!) It will definitely be clean by the time we are done with it. :) I finished lining about 3/4 of our kitchen cabinets while Chad was working with the Rug Doctor and then I ran out.We are so happy with the results, but even more so proud of ourselves for tackling the jobs! I told Chad this weekend that by the end of this we will put so much time and effort into this house that we will never want to leave it. (And, that might be true!) :)
Well, he's not a celebrity...YET. But, he met a celebrity and that's basically the same thing, right? When I found out Spencer met Jay Leno, I emailed him and said "You have to tell me the whole story right now!!! I HAVE to blog about this." ;) And, he pretty much wrote the blog for me. Here was his reply:
"How Jay and I Met"
So I was working on the FOX show I wrangle cable for "Sons of Tucson", and as we were wrapping the 13hr. day I got a text from one of my roommates that went something along the lines of...."Jay Leno's in our apartment." So I told him to hold him there, and jetted home as soon as all the carts were loaded.
Drove down the 5 then the 170 then the 134 then through Barham to my apartment. Then something terrible happened...I got behind a women driver. Drama obviously ensued and she ended up taking a sweet parking spot, which in turn ended me up parking a good 15 miles away from my place but ran the distance in about 25 seconds. Came into the hallway of my apartment and saw the man and my roommate acting out a scene, so I silently watched. After this they came back into our apartment where I was presented with my chance to meet Mr. Leno myself. He walked in and I extended my hand and...
Me: "Hey Jay, I'm the other roommate. How ya doin?"
Jay: "Doin fine, thanks for letting us use your place."
Me: "No problem."
(Quick joke to my roommate Jesse...Jay laughed, then went into our room to change)
I remember the night Chad and I closed on our house, we went to Home Depot "because we were homeowners, and we could." HA! Everyone told us that feeling would wear off soon and we would tire at the sight of orange and white signs. Well, so far, I still love going to Home Depot. (It's just the check out line that is the grueling process...)
We left the store today with the paint for our ceilings and walls: While there, we also looked at and priced some carpet. This picture is at our apartment with our paint color sample and the carpet sample we liked, positioned next to our couch and curtains so we could see the big idea. It's coming together slowly, but surely!
Not that you would be, but wewere! When our first grade team went to the Daily 5/CAFE workshop, one of our teachers spotted another team of teachers wearing the CUTEST shirts. *This is where you could insert our jealousy.*... Having T-Shirt envy, Hillary asked where they got their shirts. She found out that they were from ClaireLynn.com. After we got home, Hillary looked into it, and we decided to order them for our first grade team. Aaaaaannnnd......THEY ARE IN! YaY, can't wait to wear it on Friday: Front:Back:
This weekend Chad and I had a HUGE amount of help from our family. We could NOT have done it with out them! Thank you everyone!!!! We began with a nice surprise that once we removed a section of the paneling, their was sheet rock! YaY!Bye bye yellow painted paneling! Miss Victoria staying busy outside with her mommy! Now removing the nasty black and white vinyl and cleaning the concrete underneath! And ending the night with a little twist of "Ring Around the Rosie" :) Of course after we left the house exhausted Saturday night, none of us thought to take pictures of the finished work! So, those will come later! :) *With everyone's help and opinions and several paint samples, I was able to decide on a paint color! (Everyone agreed on the one on the far left) That color goes best with our fireplace and decor. We hope to be painting next weekend...We'll see!
This year our school hosted a Veteran's Day parade. (Idea of one of our amazing teachers who organized majority of the event...Thank you!!) It was the first time we had done this, and it was a GREAT turn out. All veteran's or members of the military were invited to march in the parade. Wednesday morning, classes lined the halls waving flags, streamers, shakers, etc. for a mix of red white and blue. Patriotic music was playing over the intercom while our Veteran's marched around the school. It was a great moment for our kids to see and experience.
Thank you to those who serve!
Here's a picture of some of our decorations/thank you letters we made for the hall:
This post is dedicated to my Aunt Brenda! (Excuse me for the shout out: Hey Brenda!!!) My aunt is someone I wish everyone could know.
Here she is(right) with my mom(left)....Pretty sisters:She is someone who is never short of a good story, good laugh, and good game of 42! Anytime you are around my aunt, you know you are going to have a good time! Our family has always said we have one thing in common: Our LOVE of Sweets!!!! If you ever find someone lingering around the dessert table, it is probably one of us. Well tonight I was craving a fruit salad she had made one time so I called her up and got the ingredients. It was just the perfect addition to a wonderful dinner!
Ingredients: Cool Whip, Cottage Cheese, Crushed Pineapple, Pecan Pieces, Strawberry Jello MixMix them all up in a large bowl.......aaaaannnnnnddddd......VOILA!! The perfect mixture of salty, sweet, and goodness! **PS. If you make it, and don't like it. That's okay! You won't hurt our feelings, because we LOVE it! :) ***And, so I might have fibbed a little. I said this was dedicated to My Aunt Brenda (and it is) but I need to steal her sunshine for the following picture. This is proof for my brother that I am wearing my cowboys jersey on GAME DAY!!!! (He said I needed to have a picture to prove myself, ha!) Go Dallas!!
Chad and I went in blindly to tackle a section of wallpaper in the master bedroom of our house. (Still sounds weird!) As newbies we were not sure what we were doing, but how hard could it be? ;) Well, 2 layers of wallpaper, 2 hours and one paper cut later, I think we did a good job!
Our wallpaper project:One of the BIG MESSES!Bye Bye Wallpaper! We have a little bit more wallpaper to remove (as you can see in the background of this picture) but, bring it on! We mean business!
The past 2 months Chad and I have been looking at houses, made 2 offers, negotiated, signed a lot of documents, and yesterday we signed our life away on our first home as we became HOMEOWNERS! We are ecstatic as we make this transition. Here are a few pictures for you:
1. Chad beginning to sign... 2. My turn! :) ...... 3. Keep 'em coming!.... 4. And here we are... 5. First trip home.... 6. And what some of you have been waiting for, the first posted picture of our new home! (And many more to come)
Last night I survived Skate Night! Skate Night is an event once a month where my school reserves the local skating rink and kids are invited to skate. It was first grade's turn to come and monitor, so I showed up last night for the first time ever! And, the first time to skate in a LONG time! With the help of Chad in the beginning, I picked it up pretty quick! (ha!....except when it came to the "teacher/parent" races, I lost BIG time!) Here's a small clip Chad took of me skating...YaY for me! hahaha:
All I can say is my co-workers know me TOO WELL! :) One of my co-workers has young kids. This year she took them trick-or-treating and came home with mounds of candy. Monday morning I was welcomed with a bag full of candy because she did want her kids to eat all of it, and she knew I'd appreciate. Thanks Misty!!! hahahaha
Hillary hosted a great party at her new house with close friends and family. We had great food, great fun, and watched a great game! **These are our $2 costumes purchased at CVS while getting a Flu Shot. Ha! Well worth it! Except our noses were feeling a little pain from the tightness of the masks, so they came off later in the night... **Chad's crazy high school hair, and my crazy attempt at masquerade hair! :) Love this kid... **And the best part of the night, Chad's CRAZY resemblance to the packaging of his costume. Thanks to my brother who found this costume and told us about it! We are slightly convinced that this is photo-shopped and any day now we will be receiving a payment to Chad from the company. :P
