A Few More Surprises!!

I had a few more Birthday Surprises waiting for me in the mail today so I wanted to share them! One was a nice card from my grandma. Every time I receive a card from my grandma it always has a nice letter written inside. I love hearing about the stories she has to share and what she has been doing lately. Even in a day of rising technology (which I love) there is still nothing like a hand written letter.
The other was a nice surprise from some of my best friends in the Big D. Rebecca and Chris sent me an "Eat Dessert First" cook book and 2 giant tootsie rolls. (Notice one has already been opened....and halfway eaten). They sure do know the way to my heart!!! I looooooove food! *Two kinds specifically: SWEETS and.... MEAT (right Patricia??). Funny, I know but sooo true. Anyway, I can't wait to share with you guys once I try out one of the dessert recipes! Rebecca suggested a few for me to start out with and I will try them soon...Wish me luck!! :)
Thanks again to everyone for all the birthday wishes! It has been great!

The Best Birthday Ever!

I was joking with Chad that every year I say that. Ya know, "This is the BEST birthday EVER!!!" Well, I do. Somehow every birthday gets better. Anyway, this is how it went down for the big 2.4....

It started off with my M-I-L, aka "The Best Package Sender", sent the best package! In the mail I found a cute little fossil watch. She said "it looked like something you would wear." And, I agree...I've loved showing it off!!
Saturday Chad and I hung out for my birthday. We had been making plans to go pick out a digi camera for me. (I lost the other one...which was actually Chad's. Whoops!) Goodbye to the recent phone pictures I've been having to update with (like this one I took with my phone of the camera)...Anyway, here she is in all her beauty:On my birthday we had a little "birthday bash" with my grade level team. For everyone's birthday we get together and eat dessert. For my birthday, Patricia made a yummy Mississippi Mud Pie?? I actually don't remember what it was called. But that's not what matters. It was delicious is what matters. In fact, I had some left-over to bring to Chad. (Isn't he a lucky guy?) I wish I had a picture of the yummy was just gone too fast! Here are some cards I received from school though!Shortly after visiting with my team, Mrs. Kathy called down to my classroom to tell me she "had something really cute for me sitting on my desk." My first ever cookie bouquet from my mom, dad and family!! It was a huge surprise!! (This is a much bigger deal that you may realize. My mom is not the best package sender. That is definitely M-I-L's job, and she does a good job! Mom and I joked and laughed for a long time about how proud we were of her for sending something via mail.) BTW some of the most delicious chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten are in this basket!!!When I came home, Chad had planned to take me out to Olive Garden with Hillary and Martin. They surprised me with some super cute frames and accessories from Pier1! I can not wait to put them in the perfect spots! To top it all off, Chad had a cake waiting for me at home. He said he "picked out the goofiest one he could find." I think he did a good job. I loved it! He had the candles lit, but, they melted too fast. Look closely, you'll see.Best of has been the best day ever to check text messages, voice mails, e-mails, and most of all Facebook! I loved hearing from all of my friends! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it a great day, because it really was the best birthday ever!~

Our Newest Addition...

Chad and I have been wanting a dog for a long time now. Well, I have been wanting one for a long time. Chad has been wanting one more recently. In fact, we almost adopted a dog a couple of times over Christmas break but after this lady broke our heart about a certain dog we wanted, it just wasn't the same. It didn't stop me from researching online different breeds, adoption places, shelters that do not euthenize, etc. We finally came to the agreement that this weekend would be a good time to go get a dog so that is exactly what we did!

We went to Abilene's Rescue the Animals Shelter. We walked in and told them we would like to look at their dogs. They told us to go on back and let them know if we were interested in looking at a dog. It was so sad seeing all the dogs cooped up in those small cages barking at us. There were several I could have taken home. The last one on the right was Ty, a 3 year old Sheppard mix. He really stood out to Chad because he was the calmest one and he let us pet him very easily. We had always wanted a female dog so I asked Chad are you sure you don't want to look at another one? He had his heart set on Ty. So, we went up front very excited. "We'd like to look at Ty" we said. They all gave us a look and we were worried. When they brought him out on the leash he was jumping, pulling, and peeing (yes.) everywhere. They informed us that he has some bad habits and can be pretty hyper. He was adopted for a year and brought back because he was not good with children. They said they have seen him interact with one of the employees' kids and he behaves just fine, he may have just been too big and overwhelming to the kids. They said he was originally found on the hwy that takes you to Tye, and that is where he got his name Ty. So we decided to keep it that. We knew we were in over our heads. But, we also knew we would not have the heart to send him back. With some work, training, and love he would do just fine. So, we sat with him for a while. He calmed down. We filled out the papers and left with the excited/nervous dog. (Who peed 3 other times before we left.) We gave each other the look, but again reassured ourselves, with training he would be a great dog. We still laugh at thinking back to how he acted in the cage. He totally played us, and we totally fell for it. ;)

Once we arrived home, we got him acquainted with our back yard. He felt the need to acquaint me with his bathroom habits. Yep, right on the leg....not 1, not 2, but 3 times he peed on me. So, after that we set in for many firsts on his first day home. We took him on his first trip to Pets Mart (we were VERY nervous on how he would act...but he did surprisingly well!).
We took him on his first walk. We came home and gave him his first bath.Although he is 3 years old he still has a few bad habits. We are mainly working on the jumping. And he has successfully kept his liquids to himself all day today. He is making progress already and will be a wonderful dog.The funniest trait he has right now is that he *hates* the camera. Anytime he sees us pull our phone or camera out to take a picture. He goes straight over to "his" couch and turns completely around. This was the funniest tho: he went straight to the corner...
I wish we knew why, but for now it gives us a good laugh.
He loves Chad already. You can tell that his previous owner must have been male. Or, at least the male spent the most time with Ty.

Early Birthday Gift

Today after school Chad and I went and bought me an "early birthday gift," hahaha!...If that's what you want to call it?? A pencil sharpener for my classroom! :) I have been wanting one for a long time, and my birthday gave us a good excuse to go out and buy one. Somehow I'm pretty good at looking for those "good excuses." So, here she is in all her beauty:
YAY! Those dull pencils have nothing on this mean pencil-eatin' machine! Okay, too far I know, I'm sorry...I'm just excited!!!

Amazing Weekend with Amazing Friends

This past weekend some of our best friends Lauren and John came to visit us. We have been waiting for this weekend for a long time!! This is the first time any *out of town* friends have been able to visit our new house...YAY!! They came Friday and stayed until Monday...(thanks to Lauren's mom for watching all of their lovely puppies). You might be thinking, oh wow that made for a long weekend...NOPE not at all. Their was never a dull moment. I seriously have not laughed so much and so hard in a long time. Lauren and I have been best friends since Kindergarten and had almost all the same teachers/classes throughout school. We have spent a lot of time together. People used to joke about how we never did anything without each other. Now we live 4 hours away from each other, and we may not talk everyday, but when we get back together it's like we were never apart, and I just love being able to have friends like that. Chad and I are truly blessed to have Lauren and John both in our lives. They mean so much to us. We took the few days they were here and packed them with everything we could possibly do. Unfortunately I have no pictures right now because I am out of a camera right now, but I will post some as soon as I get them! :) Here's a little bit of what we did....
Red Robin, Two Target Trips, Breakfast, Jason's Deli, One CrAzY Trip to Feed the Ducks, Shopping while the boys saw Avatar in 3D, Olive Garden (laughed so hard I cried), Played Games, Painted our Nails (Me and Lauren, not John and Chad), Putt-Putt, Bowling, Primetime, Bonzai, IHop, Hot Wings, Cowboys Game (Sad Day), Snapped(My new favorite show), Flat Tire (right before they were leaving), Pictures, Videos, etc. etc. etc.!!!!

We showed them all the highlights of Abilene and did a lot of visiting and catching up. We tried convincing them to live with us and we almost had them....But, I think their jobs and families will keep them in East Texas (for now) ;)

**Pictures to come later...

Cute Kid.

With a little inspiration from a friend, I played with Animoto today. This was my creation: (Right after I posted, she called. So we sang silly songs and said silly things!...the usual)

Chad and I went with our friends to see Avatar 3D yesterday. Everyone has been all hyped up and talking about how great Avatar is. Chad had been dying to see it. I wanted to see it just because everyone talked about how great the movie was. I was a little skeptical because of my disinterest in sci-fi "fake" type movies. I am not a big fan of some of the most popular: Spiderman, Batman, Iron Man, Transformers, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. I'm much more of a chick flick, cartoon, love story, emotional, action movie kind of girl. Even with having my doubts about Avatar I left the theatres LOVING it! Yes, it had some crazy stuff in it but it was so intriguing to me. The colors, images, scenes were amazing. Just as everyone said before, I agree that the better screen you can see it on, the better. Chad is ready to drive to Dallas to see it on an IMAX haha. It also has all the great add-ins of action, love story, creative imagination. I give it a thumbs up (with my 3D glasses on) and would recommend you to go see it!

Hutchins Media (Spencer Hutchins that is)

This is the picture I was trying to explain to a few people that my brother-in-law Spencer had taken over Christmas break. It's pretty awesome if I do say so myself. It was a gift for his parents and he had it all planned out in his head, and his journal. He asked Chad and I to meet him and April one morning so we could take a picture for his parents' Christmas present. I figured we were taking the same ole' family photo (which I do like). But he had something a little more creative up his sleeve. He was persistent to get 4 perfect shots of us to make a story that flows together and it was fun to see him work. We had to stand in certain spots, do things at certain times (all in the freezing cold I might add). I still can't fathom how he got every little detail to line up from picture to picture so perfectly. Oh yeah, I remember, he's good at what he does. I got a pretty good idea of how the pictures would flow together as we took the pictures mostly because Spencer would take the time to explain why he was doing certain things. However, it wasn't until I met him and April to pick up the pictures after being developed that it all really came together. He is so talented and so far away using his talent and living his dream, or working up to it at least, in Californ-i-a. To check out more of his work visit his website.

Sgetti and Meatballs

My brother sent me a picture of Victoria eating at Oliveto's (a local restaurant in Tyler). Chad and I had both previously eaten here with his mom while home for the break, and we highly recommend it! Anyway, the pictures of Victoria speak a thousand words...I think they chose the perfect dish for her. Sgetti and Meatballs!!!
And today on the phone that little girl pulled a fast one on me. She always gets a kick out of making funny mouth noises on the phone. It doesn't matter what kind of noise you make with your mouth you always get a hysterical laugh out of her. So, when I was talking to her on the phone we passed a couple of silly noises, and LOTS of laughs. My mom finally intervened to tell Victoria she needed to tell me bye. Suddenly in the saddest voice ever I hear: "Awwwwww...byeeee Carlaaa.......PFFFTTTTTT (Funny mouth noise)". I couldn't stop laughing. Neither could she.

There are obvious reasons I am not excited to go back to school:
1. Waking up early
2. The exhaustion I have once I come home everyday
3. My thoughts always relating back to school somehow
4. Only being able to eat or potty at certain times of the day
5. Having to get ready
6. Being on my feet
7. The stress of wanting all my kids to be successful
8. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But, on a more positive note, I was brainstorming with a friend some things that do excite me about going back:
I am excited to see my co-workers/friends. I am excited to be back on a routine. I am excited to see the 2 little friends in my class who always try to "hide" from me as they walk into my classroom just to see me laugh. I am excited about the one little friend who grins from ear to ear. I am excited about seeing the silly faces that another little friend likes to make to get laughs. I am excited to hear about the Christmas stories of one of my little friends and to see them chuckle at their "ditsy-ness". I am excited to get a hug and a "Hey Mrs. Hutchins" from 2 of my little friends that consistently do so. I am excited to hear one of my little friends laugh and the way they kick their head back and forth when they do so. I am excited to see my little friends be excited to see each other and tell their stories from over the break. I am excited to share again in the excitement of learning and the joy of discoveries in my little friends' eyes.

And, most of all, I am excited to sleep tomorrow night. Because after all of this excitement I will be T-I-R-E-D.

New Year's Eve Festivities

For several years now, my family has had a New Year's "Party" (although it's more of just a family/friend get together). We always put out the veggie tray and chips/dip to snack on, my dad makes ridiculously hot (but good) chicken wings, we play a game or two, my greatest childhood friends Lauren & John and Courtney (when in town) come over and we have a yearly photo shoot, my aunt & the boys come over, and we end the night with a wide assortment of fireworks.

Clint and Kristen were able to join us this year...*YaY*The guys of the family...Lovely Mom and Dad...Mom, me, and Aunt Brenda hanging out while the guys go get fireworks...Jared came back with a firework especially for Victoria, a little rooster. *She really liked it!We played a big game of Who, What, Where. I should have taken a picture of my dad's drawings. They were priceless. It's Firework time!! Victoria does not like loud noises at all so we tuned them out with these giant-sized headphones. She stayed here in mommy's arms majority of the time, she loves seeing the lights sparkle in the sky.Lauren and John attempting to stay warm...The boys were having a blast...Up to no good, at all...10, 9, 8....4, 3, 2, 1......HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!Burning the remnants of the fireworks...Back inside again! Now for the guys to "jam out" the rest of the night...or, morning?Meanwhile, a yearly photo shoot begins...Love these girls soooooo much!!!

Visiting Grandma

New Year's Eve my family went to visit my grandma. My cousin Sarah, brought her 2 kids over. (They had grown so much since I had seen them last!) It was a very nice visit and my grandma got to open all of her goodies. Victoria helped out a lot...
Son and Mom...
After the gifts the second cousins were ready to play! They had so much fun together. Victoria slept the entire car ride home, and then some! The girls played dress-up, and then tried to hide from the camera...We got a posed picture anyway...This was a work in progress to get them to share...But they really do love playing with each other...And, finally, my brother's with our grandma in their matching "argyle" sweaters... ;)
